Are You Ready for Spokes4Kids?

We all have that special memory that involves a bicycle from when we were young. Riding in the sunshine with friends, wind blowing through your hair. There was nothing better. What if you did not have that memory? What if you always dreamed about having a bicycle but could never afford one?

That is where the Spokes4kids Community Challenge steps in. Spokes4Kids is part of the Shelby Bicycle Days, an annual festival to celebrate the Shelby Bicycle. Our event is a fun way to spend a Friday evening during the summer. Your team will compete in wacky challenges against teams from across Richland County. Some challenges from years past include: green machine races, hungry human hippo, and last year’s favorite, crab soccer. Only one team will walk away with the golden bicycle tire (and gift certificates to Paul’s Drive-In) and be named victorious. A team consists of five people with a registration fee of $125. All the money raised from registration fees is then used to fulfill a wish list of bicycle needs for the holiday season provided by Crossroads Church and The Richland County Children’s Auxiliary. Without your help most of these children would not be able to afford a bicycle themselves, so this gives them a chance to own one!

Want to be involved? We are constantly looking to make this event bigger and better each year. The more teams we have, the more money goes toward buying bicycles for kids. Our event takes place on W.W. Skiles Field in Downtown Shelby on July 12th at 6pm. Team registration forms will be available soon. Contact Ashley Meyer at ameyer@richlandareachamber.com with any questions or registration requests. Thank you to our sponsors Richland Bank and Richland Young Professionals who help us provide the supplies for the games and the volunteers to run the event. This event has carried on for 6 years because of you and all of our fun loving, community driven teams.

See you on the field!
