Name: Jason Bivens
Company: Westfield Bank

Role: Commercial Banker
LU Graduation Year: 2023
Why should graduates of LU attend alumni events such as socials, dinners, and panels?
The primary reason I joined LU was to connect with individuals committed to improving Richland County. I grew up here, and this area holds a special place in my heart. Attending LU events allows me to learn about community development projects and network with like-minded individuals who want to make a difference.
How would you describe your LU experience?
My LU experience was incredibly rewarding. The program pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow both personally and professionally. I gained a deeper understanding of the challenges many in our community face and the organizations that support them. One of the most impactful moments was the Richland Newhope Program Day. Before that, I only knew them for their great golf outing. Visiting their facilities and seeing the joy they bring to individuals was unforgettable.
In what ways do you feel more equipped and connected after graduating from LU?
Networking events are much less intimidating now. I often run into LU alumni, and those introductions have helped me expand my network and build meaningful connections.
Describe your civic engagement roles such as board and volunteer service.
Jason actively serves on several boards and community organizations, including:
- Kiwanis Club of Mansfield
- Braintree Business Development Center
- LU Advisory Board
- Shelby Little League Board
- Richland Area Chamber Ambassador
- Crawford County Chamber Ambassador
Fun fact:
“I was born on Friday the 13th, and my name is Jason. In my mom’s defense, I was born before the Friday the 13th movies came out!”
