October is Manufacturing Month, a time to recognize the vital role this sector plays in Richland County and across Ohio.

Locally, manufacturing provides a strong, stable foundation for employment, with one in every five jobs in Richland County tied to the industry, more than double the national average, according to the Ohio Labor Market Information website. That’s not just a statistic. It’s a sign of long-term strength and a deep-rooted legacy of innovation, craftsmanship, and hard work.

Richland County is home to a diverse mix of manufacturers in logistics, automotive, packaging, research and development, and advanced materials. The workforce here is skilled, resilient, and closely connected to industry, building on a legacy that includes Westinghouse, Ohio Brass, Gorman-Rupp Pumps, and Charter Next Generation.

Between 2021 and 2024, the number of local manufacturing jobs remained steady, even as other regions experienced significant shifts. This resilience reflects the sector’s continued relevance and adaptability — and its ability to support not just direct employment, but also a wide range of related industries, from transportation to engineering to small business supply chains.

This October, as we celebrate Manufacturing Month, we’re honoring the people and companies that continue to build, produce, and grow, right here in Richland County.
